The Lovers of Ghost Alley

It is a story as old as the military itself, but this particular version being from before the Civil War. A stodgy military officer left Fort Monroe on army business, leaving his young wife home alone. As these stories always seem to go, the wife seized the opportunity to enjoy the company of a younger and more dashing man. She met her lover in the alleyway called Mathew Lane.

The officer returned home to the couple’s quarters only a short time later, finding two bodies intertwined in his bed. So the officer pulled out his pistol and shot his wife. The younger man skirted away.

To this day, people claim to see the “White Lady.” She is a ghostly figure also called the “Light Lady” because of her glow. She is seen on Mathew Lane, in what is now called Ghost Alley, still looking for her departed lover.
